This Fall: Xbox 360 Surprises
Richard Teversham, Marketing Manager of Xbox Europe has given an interview where he states they have a few surprises up their sleeve when it comes to the Xbox 360 and particularly its pricing to the consumer.
Richard Teversham has dismissed the launch plans of rivals Sony and Nintendo – whilst hinting at “surprise†spoiler tactics this Q4.
While Teversham ruled out a cut on the Xbox 360 before Christmas, he went on to slam PS3’s price tag. “The question is: When are they going to drop the price? I think a lot of gamers out there are going to be saying ‘I’ll wait for the price to drop,’ or even better they’ll buy a 360.â€Â
Teversham also warned that Microsoft has a few spoilers planned for Q4. “I don’t want to reveal any plans at the moment because we want to keep a number of surprises up our sleeve. We will ensure we are good value and we’ll do that through having a variety of pricing on games, a variety of pricing on console offers.â€Â
Teversham went on record to talk about Microsoft’s new portable media device project Zune too, as he told MCV: “It is a combination of hardware and software. As for rollout and compatibility you’re going to have to watch this space - when we launch there will be a lot of noise around it. It’s about Microsoft bringing together communities on devices like Xbox, Zune and PC.”

Potential suprises: Zune released the same week as PS3. http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/31/zune-to-launch-november-14th/
They may delay it a week or two to counter the PS3 launch. Why would Zune counter the PS3? FULL LIVE ANYWHERE SUPPORT. Not neccessarily for games, but a feature that has Xbox Live Friends List with messaging. Another surprise? HD-DVD Drives included in the Premium Pack for the same $399.99 MSRP. So technically it would not be a price drop but it be more value for the money. But doing both these in November would be a great 1-2 punch to the Sony Hype Machine…
