Eternal Darkness Sequels Planned
Silicon Knights, who are creating the Xbox 360 trilogy Too Human, have already come out and said GameCube classic, Eternal Darkness will have two sequels.
“When creating an original game we start by conceptualizing an entire universe. Once the universe is conceptualized we then tell a story within that world,” he says. “Although this [Eternal Darkness 1] is just one story we had in mind for the Eternal Darkness universe, there are even more manipulations, great ancients, and numerous other stories to tell…”
They planned on a three-part story from day one.
“We believe that an important part of making a trilogy successful is that each of its parts is self contained. Because we want each game to be a complete experience on its own, the major plot lines will be resolved at the end of each game,” he concludes.
Eternal Darkness is still one of my favorite games ever, and also one of the scariest games I have ever played. It came out four years ago this summer, and it’s still one of the main reasons I will buy a Wii, because I want to play through it again, it’s that good.
If you have a GameCube, and don’t have Eternal Darkness, you can get it pretty cheap these days.
Sadly, these sequels are probably a long way off. Maybe even an Xbox 3 launch title?

Never played Eternal Darkness myself but any game that messes with the player’s mind gets my vote. Now how about an announcement from those involved about KOTOR 3?

I too never played Eternal Darkness, but I want to see some KOTOR 3 announcement soon.

Play some Eternal Darkness while you wait.
That game’s existance is the only reason I don’t fully regret my purchase of a GameCube at launch.

Trilogies don’t have to be self-contained to be successful — just look at the box office results of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 for some recent evidence. Going further back provides many more examples: the Xenosaga games (PS2); the Halo games (XBox, XBox 360); the Harry Potter books; and a whole lot more prior to all of these in all forms of leisurely entertainment from many different generations.
Eternal Darkness was a great game though. I don’t remember much of it anymore since I only played it once a long time ago, but I do remember enjoying it.
