Red Alert 3 Canceled for the PS3
Add another title to the long list of games scheduled for the PS3 that have been canceled or delayed due to the PS3’s architecture. It was revealed a couple months ago by EA that they had discontinued work on the PS3 version of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, but now we know what the cause for it was, and it’s a shocker.
“We actually announced a PS3 version early on but that was when we were still doing a lot of technical exploration of the architecture,” explained Ajami. “PS3 is a very powerful system but as you guys know it’s very exotic and tough to develop for and our engine really at the time wasn’t designed for PS3.” Couch commanders need not give up all hope, though, as Ajami notes EA “might go back and do something with the PS3 later on.”
The only good that can come from this, is that hardware companies like Sony and Microsoft see the problems that developers are having with their consoles, and work hard next-generation to put developer’s needs in front of their quest to cut corners or shove in proprietary hardware that is not gaming friendly.
Oh, and speaking of gaming hardware, Amazon.com has the new 60GB Xbox 360 in-stock already.

I have never noticed how shitty the PS3 looks without chrome.

yea, cant wait to see the “New Theme & Layout” i like how this website is just clean and not cluttered. Anyways. To you cleric, im sure you have heard all the talk about the ps3 going to take out the 360 in the long run because ps3 uses bluray (more storage) and how developers will catch on to the ps3’s powerfull hardware soon. whats your take on this? you think ps3 will win in the long run? and also your take on the advantage ps3 has with only useing one disc on bigger games, where as 360 might need more.

I don’t think the PS3 is ever going to take out the 360, most people don’t care about all of Sony’s big talk, and most developers don’t either. Gamers are coming to the Xbox 360 due to Live and things like Achievements and all of the other community things out there that people see online and want to be a part of. The 360 also has 99% of the games out there, so if you buy one console, it’s going to the the 360. (or the Wii, if you’re into that kind of gaming, but that’s another story).
The developers on the other hand care about the install base, and the ease of development. The Xbox 360 has the best of both when it comes to the 360/PS3 rivalry, and the PS3 has the worst of both. Developers are still canceling and delaying games on the PS3 due to the high difficulty and cost to develop on the PS3, and it doesn’t seem like they’re getting “used to” the PS3 like Sony always claimed they would.
Top developers like Valve and EA know what they’re doing when it comes to making games, so that only leaves one company who doesn’t, Sony.

I also wanted to say that I don’t think storage space is going to be a problem, unless Microsoft makes it one. I linked in the story the news that John Carmack (Rage, Doom 4) was talking at QuakeCon about how Rage will suffer on the Xbox 360 unless MS doesn’t make them pay so much for including three discs with the game. They said if MS doesn’t make this concession, they’ll be forced to over-compress the game onto two discs.
John Carmack also said at QuakeCon though that the Xbox 360 is superior hardware to the PS3.
Microsoft should be working with developers to make the DVD format as easy to work with, and not be punishing developers for their own hardware decisions. Instead, MS is being as arrogant and greedy as usual, and I frankly hope they keep it up and it blows up in their face so they go back to how they were with the first Xbox.
Microsoft has adopted the business practices of EA and Apple, and I am not happy with that.
