Well if I want a flashy desktop I'll use mac os. If I want a real secure system, I'll use linux.

If I want a flashy 3d desktop AND security, I'll use linux and install compiz.

Not much use for vista, especially since I play games on my 360.

I'm definately holding off for a year or so before I get Vista. I really don't see any point to being an early adopter of an operating system like this, particularly if you don't already have a nice PC. Vista is going to be a beast to run with all the shiny visual effects enabled, so I don't think it's terribly practical to have my computer getting bogged down just trying to run the OS.

Besides, after a year or so, most of the major early problems will have been addressed (exploits, bugs, etc) and it will have been appropriately hacked to allow me to do what I want with my media. (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6286245.stm )

And then of course, the bottom line comes down to the sheer price of an upgrade. As a college student, I will be getting Vista free through the school, but for the average (non-pirating) user, it's going to be a big hit in the wallet. At this point, I simply don't see enough justification to spend that much money for what Vista is providing.

Of course, I am not particularly interested in PC gaming simply due to the cost of keeping everything upgraded, but I suppose DirectX 10 support will be reason enough for some. My 360 suits me just fine ;)

I would not even consider upgrading if I was not getting a copy for free from the university. However, since I am, at least one of my computers will probably go Vista as soon as I get my hands on a copy.

I am getting it, I am just going to buy a new computer w/ Vista already on it. My old (3 yrs) beast is starting to show its age. Vista looks impressive I can't wait to check it out.
