Pope Condemns Video Games

VATICAN CITY: Pope Benedict XVI has taken a swipe at violent or sexually explicit video games and animated movies, naming them a “pervasive influence” on children.
The Pope made the statements in a message to mark the church’s World Communications Day.
“Any trend to produce programs and products - including animated movies and video games - which in the name of entertainment exalt violence and portray anti-social behavior or the trivialization of human sexuality is a perversion, all the more repulsive when these programs are directed at children and adolescents,” he said.
“I appeal to the leaders of the media industry to educated and encourage producers to safeguard the common good, to uphold the truth, to protect individual human dignity and promote respect for the needs of the family.”
Benedict also suggested that children should be encouraged to enjoy classic literature, fine arts and “uplifting music”.
Seriously…is this the most important thing he can talk about? In an age where war is constant, and there are murders and rapes every single day, VIDEO GAMES are what one of the most influential people in the world chooses to speak about on “World Communications Day”? I honestly thought this was a fake news story when I uncovered it a couple minutes ago.
He’s right though, let’s not condemn actual violence, let’s condemn the fake violence on the TV.

Hi there pope. Please kindly go molest some children or whatever you guys are doing lately and shut the hell up. I’m so tired of people blaming things on videogames or bashing them because of their content.
He skips right over the whole “most violent games are rated so that kids are restricted from playing them” thing and goes right into the “currupting our children, go read a book” spiel.

This is stupid. Theres terrorists going around doing suicide bombings,Clan warfare in Africa, Rebel movements around India and China, Political unstability in the Middle East, and countries threaten the world with nukes.

Ive played Halo 2 a lot but after I play it I don’t feel any urge to kill people or rob a store. Do you see the terrorists making kids play violent video games in their training camps? I don’t
So i’ll go read some classical literture dance around in a stupid costume. And listen to bad music…or
I can sit on my couch with a bag of chips and a coke and play some Halo while listening to rock music.
