The Microsoft Conspiracy
It seems the kids over at the official PlayStation forums have figured it all out. All the mainstream gaming sites, even IGN, has been paid off and is secretly working with Microsoft to keep the PlayStation 3 down. That’s right, it’s all Microsoft’s fault that Sony has a horrible reputation right now. It’s not the racist/sexist PSP ads, it’s not the countless stupid remarks from Kaz Hirai and Phil Harrison, it’s not the fact that none of the PS3 games are actually impressive and that Sony has been caught in a lie weekly since E3. It’s all a conspiracy. Find the truth here at the PlayStation boards.
August 26th, 2006 - Quote of the Week
In last week’s Quote of the Week, I posted an interview where Kaz Hirai says both the PS3 has yet to begin manufacturing, and will only have 2 million by the end of the year worldwide. Sony has now been doing damage control for the last week and now say this:
“SCE has not changed its shipment schedule and is still on target to ship 2 million by launch window, 4 million by the end of this year, and 6 million by the end of FY 06,â€Â
Now this is just a blatant lie. Analysts have come out and said that Sony will have 3 million by April, which I believe to be accurate. They’ll have ~ 1 to 1.2 million by the end of the year, a majority of those going to Japan, and then by April maybe get three million and maybe actually have the system available in USA.
Did Microsoft force Sony to lie about the PS3 or its launch numbers? The truth is out there…Digg?

Its called a contrarian…and yes I have a bit of that. But that streak in me only seems to stand out when presented with stupid/unreasonable arguments that people actually take seriously. Kind of like this website.

Unlike any of the people who come here to bash me, or those Sony fans in that forum, I actually back up what I say. In case you haven’t noticed, whenever I begin talking about Sony, every other sentence tends to be a link proving or sourcing what I am saying. I didn’t see any proof from that forum that Microsoft actually was behind Apollo 13 crashing, a very immature thing to say. It’s not surprising that that kind of stuff is allowed over there at that cesspool of a forum.

So dan, why don’t you just stop coming to “stupid/unreasonable” websites like this one, and leave us in our little fantasy world. We’re obviously too dense to grasp the wisdom of your words, so you might be better off posting elsewhere where other logical people agree with everything you say. And it might even be good for keeping your blood pressure down, which might be an important consideration at your age.

Ha…ha…ha. I apprieciate the concern. But I’m fine. Besides stirring up the bees nest does nothing but relieve tension.
Cleric what proof have you offered that TEAMXBOX is part of the anti MS crowd…I mean evidence other than your own craziness and their efforts to ban you…simply because you are a truthteller about their evil ways. Your evidence would get you laughed out of court…hell laughed out of “people’s court”. I’ve read your “Sony Killed the Dreamcast” page and I would seriously be concerned about a lawsuit if I were you for all the unsubstantiated charges on that page. Come on!! Proof…evidence…I’ve seen none of it on this page.
On a sidenote…Cleric I had the pleasure of playing you today in RB6:LV. It was an even greater pleasure killing you…right outside the spawn on Streets. Go figure Cleric is a Spawn Killer…I never would have guessed. I didn’t play long because the idiot hosting was holding 3 minute matches in order to boost rank. But it was fun while it lasted.

OK - it’s not that they are anti-MS, it’s that they are pro-Sony and thusly slant their news and posts in that direction. Those two concepts are not mutually exclusive. Did I mention that I’m still waiting to use AIM on my PS2? Or RealNetworks? Where’s my Toy Story level graphics? And correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that Sony was the one criticizing MS over multiple SKUs? Guess it’s alright as long as it works in their favor?
Where’s my PS3 cross-game invites? In-game chat? Persistent Xbox guide-esque messaging, friends lists, streaming music aka custom soundtracks, etc.? Need I go on?

“HD era starts with the PS3!” - not if you have a TV more than a year old
The list goes on and on dan. If you’d like to make a cogent argument on the matter, quit accusing and simply disprove Cleric’s research (links are always provided. If you don’t think they are allowable or credible, give reason) with your own. Do you think he just shits out his own mouth just to annoy you? What’s the point of performing the research if it’s as “inadmissable” as you say?
As it stands now, you’re just a daily piece of comedy around here (and likely other places). You should probably just get back to your rediculously busy schedule and “the real world” and leave us poor disillusioned fools alone.

I really did think about it, but I didn’t know how serious you take all this. It sounded like you were playing with friends and I didn’t want to get attacked on your que. For all my talk I really don’t mean any harm, plus I work in politics so I’m used to being friends with people I completely disagree with (and those disagreements are over much more pressing issues than the console war) so I wouldn’t have minded letting you know it was me. But again I didn’t want to get jumped on when I was trying to just play and have some fun. I’m sure your the same way. You probably don’t want everyone who visits your site or who you get in an argument with on xbox.com to talk to you if they run across you on Live. Next time.

I don’t know about you, but where I’m from, insulting someone’s integrity and calling them a liar isn’t exactly something to take lightly. Cleric’s too nice to say it and it’s his site so he might come across as a dictator, but, as people like SH1SNO and others will tell you, I don’t suffer from that flaw. I don’t care if it’s my site, or some random place on the net, I’ll let you know when you’re being rude or ignorant.

Nope, I didn’t know any of those guys, I rarely party up with friends on Live and go into games, I’m usually joining up to games by myself. It’s hard to plan and get friends together at a certain time, especially with my schedule. Matt knows that all too well.

Matt - then you need to get a sense of humor. I have never called Cleric a liar. I’ve said his conspiricy theories are a bit crazy regarding how websites are biased. Websites like IGN want as big a fanbase as possible…if they offended the entire xbox community half of the readers (i.e. revenue) would be out the window thats why I disagree with Cleric.
I don’t dispute many of the things that Cleric says about Sony. I agree they are an arogant and money hungry corporation that don’t care about gamers. Where I differ from Cleric is that I think the same thing about MS. He bashes on Sony for delays and false promises…how long ago where we all supossed to be getting Vista. All companies make promises to attract shareholders and customers. Sony and MS are one in the same…in terms of the Video game market MS is simply the underdog and therefore garners more sympathy. They also know as the underdog, they can’t afford to make the kind of missteps that Sony makes. So they are more customer friendly. Props to them.
You may have a problem with me…but I have no problem with anyone on this site I’d play with any of you anytime on Live.

I’ll say my piece on this:
I don’t agree with most of UN’s conspiracy theories about such things as the TXB and Sony thing, I’ve read quite a bit of anti-Sony articles by the TXB crew to know that there is no conspiracy. My advice to UN, as a business man, stay away from the theories and stick to why I come here, the documented falsehoods of Sony and the great MS/Xbox updates and info.
Dan, I don’t understand why you don’t, as a consumer, get offended by the continual, purposeful, misinformation that Sony gives out. Just as a consumer of electronic products I’m offended by a company that continually overhypes and does not produce as advertised. I am also amused at the loyalty of the fanbase that will take any lie as truthiness. It really is funny.

I know MS isn’t perfect, and Vista is a slew of nightmares rolled into one big ball of crap. But this is a gaming site, and as far as gaming goes, I tip my hat to MS. They aren’t really the underdog, that would be Nintendo. Microsoft just wanted their pockets to (eventually) be lined with another part of the consumer market.
As far as my sense of humor, it is most definitely very well developed. I’m just waiting for anything you’ve said to be funny. You’ve never come across as joking, and writing long diatribes and responses is anything but kidding.
How exactly do you figure that 1/2 of their readers (IGN) would go away if they said something against Xbox? I would wager that by far many more Sony and Nintendo fans exist than MS.
And trust me, everyone knows MS is bad. They just do a pretty good job with the video game market

I do stay away from the conspiracy theories, that’s why I don’t post news articles about them. I only brought up TXB in the comments section of my Infowar Part II entry because someone else started talking about my history there, and how they have purged everything I did there since they banned me with no reason given.

Matt - What I mean by underdog is this: they are behind and want to eventually want to surpass Sony. I really am not sure if Nintendo cares…they are doing their own thing and being quite successful with it.
So MS has to build their fanbase. You don’t do that by coming off to the general public as arrogant bastards (ie Sony) that just turns people away. You don’t win fans by putting out a new system that experiences a number of problems and not responding proactively to address consumers concerns…thats why MS response to the limited number of 360 launch defects was so good.
Sony believes that with a fanbase as rabid and loyal and 100 million strong world wide they can get away with some of these behaviors. I mean when you have 100 million customer whats the big deal if you lose 1 million becasue of some arrogant comments. I simply saying if MS was in the same position, with customers to burn, I think you would see the same kind of behavior out of them. Just look at their computer software division.
As far as IGN…you missed my point. Lets say Xbox fans make up 25% of the video game market instead of 50%. What business do you know would be willing to risk even just 25% of its customers.

True- here is why I didn’t/don’t care about the false promises from Sony. I owned a PS2 and yeah I didn’t get toy story level graphics, or great online play and all the other promises Cleric has rightfully pointed out. But here is the thing…I did have a good gaming machine that I enjoyed very much. Despite CLerics going on about all the troubles with the PS2 I had one PS2 for the entire last generation. I didn’t have a launch system but I got it early in 2002 and had it until I traded it in toward my 360.
I also owned a xbox eventually for Halo. And have said halo was my favorite game from last Gen. However, in total I spent many more hours on my PS2 than my xbox, becasue the number of exclusives were much better. Rachet and CLank, Jak, GTA:VC and SA., God of War, FFX and MGS. So while sony may have failed to give me what they promised…they sure as hell gave me a great gaming system. Thats where I think they’ve gone wrong this generation. With exclusives drying up and no game that stands out but MGS (which I agree with Cleric is likely to be either a timed exclusive or not an exclusive at all)…I don’t think tehy are delivering a great gaming machine. BUT, if the PS3 provides as good a gaming experience as the PS2 I will eventually own one…and once again I won’t care about what they promised.

Thank you dan, those are the kind of comments we have been looking for. I don’t think any of us take offense about your disagreements, we are just looking to have a constructive dialogue, where both sides present an argument backed up by some substance (links, etc.). The problems that exist on most other boards of a meaningless flamewar starting up over just about any topic don’t really exist here up to this point. I think the reason many of us are so rabid about the whole thing is just that we are trying to prevent everything from degenerating into the typical namecalling so we can continue to enjoy the solid articles that Cleric frequently produces.
