UNSCleric.com - Game of the Year & More
What game do you think was the best of 2006? Gears of War? Viva Pinata? Call of Duty 3? Prey? Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter? Oblivion? Saints Row? F.E.A.R.? Rainbow Six Vegas? Whatever it is, you can vote for it to win UNSCleric.com Game of the Year! Just comment on this news entry with your choice, or e-mail me your choice here.
Voting will end on 1/1/07, which is also the day of the next Halography update. Over the next month I will be going through the newest Halo book, Ghosts of Onyx, which I picked up a month ago and still have not started due to all the incredible games coming out.
I also want to draw attention to an entry I posted a couple weeks ago that continues to be commented on to this day, probably since it was posted on Digg.com The entry has a nice debate/war/discussion going on and make sure to put your opinion down on the issues being talked about if you haven’t already. Click here for the entry.
I also hope to have Part II of the Next-Gen Infowar series online by Friday morning.

My vote is definately for Gears of War. I have only briefly played the multiplayer, so I don’t know how much lasting appeal the game has, but I had so much fun with the single-player (coop) campaign that I have played it though about three times in the past week or so.

Gears of War for best game of the year.
December 2nd, 2006 at 5:44 pm
I gotta go with Gears of War.
December 2nd, 2006 at 6:35 pm
Sorry guys, Gears is great, but I have to say The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
December 2nd, 2006 at 6:36 pm
Gears should win it’s just soo amazing
December 2nd, 2006 at 8:16 pm
As much as I want to say Gears of War, I have to say Oblivion.
December 2nd, 2006 at 8:36 pm
While Gears is eye-shatteringly beautiful I’d have to go with Oblivion as well. From the first second of the game you are the character. You do what you want, you go where you want, you learn the techniques and spells that you want. It is a living, breathing world. Gears is great but for GAME OF THE YEAR, Oblivion is the way to go…
December 2nd, 2006 at 11:57 pm
You know, I may have to revise my vote to Oblivion. Gears was more gripping in the short term, but Oblivion definately has the edge in terms of lasting impact. Had forgotten to include it in my initial list of choices.

I gotta go with Gears. I haven’t really been able to get into Oblivion, maybe I’m just too accustomed to KOTOR-style RPGs.
December 3rd, 2006 at 3:23 pm
Definitely Oblivion.
December 3rd, 2006 at 3:42 pm
Sneak King.
I’m gonna go with Gears. It’s an all around fantastic package.
December 3rd, 2006 at 4:33 pm
Gears of War
December 3rd, 2006 at 10:11 pm
I’ll probably have to say Oblivion, with Gears of War and Lumines Live! tied for a close second.
December 3rd, 2006 at 10:26 pm
Wow, ExWife…I assumed you’d vote Geometry Wars before Lumines, particularly after the shady pricing scheme I seem to recall. I guess you decided it was worth it?
December 4th, 2006 at 4:54 am
Yeah - the pricing scheme still pissed me off. I’m using it as a learning experience with the arcade I guess. In any case, the game is still rediculously awesome. It’s the best arcade release this year despite the whole pricing fiasco. Geometry Wars was last year, so it doesn’t count, otherwise it would easily be tied for #1 with Oblivion
December 4th, 2006 at 5:15 am
I even wrote a review for Lumines at xbladdict.com It got our highest rating despite the pricing: http://xbladdict.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=24

Gotta go with Dead Rising. Gears is great, Oblivion ate chunks of my life, but Dead Rising was incredible.
December 4th, 2006 at 8:44 am
My play through Dead Rising was some of the most tense gaming I’ve ever experienced, mostly due to how the saving system works. Fortunately, I never got burned that bad or stuck by the saving system, but I was literally less than a second from being horribly stuck at a hard section due to saving at a bad time/location. Good times…

Wow, lots-a-posts. I am surprised that there is no GRAW love here. At all. That game was the inital reason to own a 360 for drooling purposes alone. Anyway after Gears has curb stomped its way into my heart I have to say that its enough to get the nod for GOTY. Its still very fresh on everyones mind where some might think this is unfair, I think that its release date takes nothing away from the: Gameplay, graphics & submersive feel. The Live gameplay has me addictted to the point that I get the shakes after not playing it for a while…first time that has happend since SMB3. o_O

Oblivion. I’m sick and tired of Gears’ unfriendly matchmaking process, which makes me not even want to play that game anymore, and the game is waaaay to easy even on insane for it to overtake Oblivion’s right to the title.
December 14th, 2006 at 2:47 pm
I think I see a trend here. Can we just declare a tie between Gears and Oblivion? That would be my vote. If I have to choose one, I’ll give it to Gears because it is more action packed, which is my personal preference.

[...] With only a week to go, don’t forgot to vote for Game of the Year, and also enter UNSContest #3, for the chance to win a new Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote! [...]
December 25th, 2006 at 12:05 am
i’d say a tie between Gears of War and Fight Night round 3. i STILL play fight night and GoW the most.
December 25th, 2006 at 6:38 pm
I want to say that the game of the year is Gears of War
December 25th, 2006 at 9:58 pm
Hands down Gears was a freakin amazing game… but Oblivion still continues to eat away at weeks worth of my gaming time, especially with the new content out for it, so my vote goes to Oblivion.
