Widespread PS3 Problems
Below is just a small example of what people are experiencing here in North America and in Japan.
My previous entry highlights some of the problems people are experiencing, but it’s a guarantee we will see more and more throughout the weeks. The main question is, will Sony rip-off their customers until another class action suit is filed? It seemed like with some of the PSP problems Sony was willing to fix them at a fair price, but also failed to help fix any of the rampant LCD screen problems, calling them natural.
This will be the last entry until Monday, when the new article, The Next-Gen Infowar, is released.

Not to mention that Resistance looks like utter and total crap. Half Life 2 looks better on the original xbox than that game on PS3. Sorry Sony, but you’ve yet to impress me. Oh, and I read somewhere that not only do you have to install retail games, but demos as well. Even after you download them! What a joke.

And yeah, your PS3 runs tottaly silent. But lets hope that you don’t have a 1080i only HDTV. Or that something simple don’t mess up in it, and you call Sony and they do nothing about it, then you end up buying 7 PS3’s just like most people did with the PS2. And did you read Cleric’s entry about the 360 version of everything that is multi-platform getting a better review, even though the PS3 is $200 more?

I knew that there would be problems with the long before its launch..I mean look at the fact It was suppose to launch with the 360 and didn’t they held back to comptete witht the wii. OH COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!! What sore losers they knew they couldn’t hack it with the 360 so they waited and picked up some on the same acc. the wii and 360 had. And they pushed it to come out before the wii so they could say the six axis was their idea.. Then they say oh yeah ps3 will have blue ray!!!!….. SO WHAT!!!!!!!! THERE are only 5 blue ray discs avail. right now ….Oh and the comment on the 360’s fan that is so the console’s cool processing power won’t fry it “ps3 so silent……” AND IT CAN”T WORK RIGHT MAYBE A POWERFUL COOLING UNIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE THING THEY SHOULD HAVE COPIED… I love the playstation I love all the consoles but my god give credit were credit is due and admit it the playstation got beat again… but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a good system in the futrue after the kinks are worked out…. That’s my opinion I could be wrong

I would love to, if only Sony would stop the same business tactics that killed the Dreamcast. If no one speaks out against the garbage Sony is pulling then the gaming industry will continue to lose more and more great aspects of it..

There are PS3 fanboys in high places. I’ve read a couple of reviews for “Resistance: Fall of Man” that were overly praising of the game. It’s a good game, but it’s not the “Game of the Month” as Game Informer put it. It even beat out Gears of War for that honor in that publication. That is utter bull.
In any case, brand loyalty will keep Sony afloat for a little while. The PS3 has enough fanboys to get it through this holiday and early next year. It will begin to die a miserable death when the 360 gets a price drop and Halo 3 comes out next November.

It costs more because it does more, blue ray players are in the upwards of over $700 by themselves, ever think of that? This is a console, plus a Blue Ray player. xbox is 2nd class. always will their main focus is computers not gaming systems.

Blu-ray is also in the first stage of the product cycle, which is Sony’s mistake. The technology is too new, and too expensive. Here, however, is the key to their failing.

That’s part of the problem. Sony’s new technology REQUIRES a High end HDTV for you to get the full effect. Some players will have this. MANY will not, and lower end HDTV’s are having a WORLD of trouble. One of the many reasons I’m not getting one is that, being a college student, I simply can’t afford an HDTV.
Also, as said before, graphics is the WRONG area to compete in the gaming market. I’ve seen the previews for Resistance, but I’ve seen that game before… Battlefield 2 on the PC.
As for your “Silent PS3″… one fan, one heatsink cooling the WHOLE thing. It had BETTER crash after 3 hours, or it’s going to melt itself. I don’t care how big the fan is. Relying on one fan only increases the risk that the fan will burn out/die in some fashion and turn your CPU to ash. Especially as hot as Sony products tend to run. Both the PS1/PSX/PSone and PS2 had heat problems. PS3 is aiming to be no different.
Now, that being said, I’m personally a Wii fan and my family has already purchased one for me as a present, go them, but while not a fan of the 360, I share the sentiment toward Sony. Sony has a meager, at best, understanding of the gaming community, and they are simply not revolutionary. Better graphics isn’t amazing, it’s simply better graphics. At least XboX has a highly rated online system, with people enjoying XboX Live’s global friends list and ability to stay in contact. It really has set some grounds, I believe, for console multiplayer networking. The PS3 even failed at that.
Sony is a flagging company who’s going to look to cut their losses. Given the high price of the PS3, the fact that it’s losing money anyway on that, and the production costs and lack of sales… Sony’s going to be eyeing the playstation division for the chopping block unless it turns itself around at the most by the next generation.

Com-on guys, yeah some of the games of the 360 look alot better than the ps3 this days, but thats normal, the ps3 will definately be better than the 360 in half a year….at least the first games of the ps3 look alot better than those first released on the 360, anyone remember?????/tony hawk look like crap, and all of the other ones too…. almost like an xbox game or worst…..then they started to look alot better within time…..the ps3 and game developers just need time to get advantage of the blue ray technology….YOU CANT COMPARE A ONE YEAR CONSOLE TECHNOLOGY VS A NEW RELEASE CONSOLE c’mon think about it……..i have both of them, but to tell u guys the truth i LOVE MORE MY PS3!!!!!!!!!!!even thought it barely started…….

props to serpent of babylon. the whole idea of a fanboy is just retarded. granted im somewhat of a sony fan. i bought a ps2 b4 i got my xbox and honestly for those that think xbox beat ps2 think about what the system had to offer. the only big advantage was halo(at least for me) and even then i didnt get one until h2 came out on live. i was playing socom on the internet for a couple years b4 anything on xbl was worth having. xbl did a good job selling itslef. i was willing to pay the 50 bucks a year to have it. that doesnt change the fact that it ended up costing me 100 for 2 years of h2 and i got 3yrs of sony online for the 40bucks i payed for the modem.
you guys get all pissed over hte ps3 being 600 dollars. but think about it. if you compare the base versions of the systems you are looking at 299 for the 360 and 499 for the ps3. the base ps3 has a 20gb hdd the base 360 has a whopping 00000 so you have to buy memory cards to save your games on. the ones i have seen are 64Mb and run around $35 a piece. so you can now raise the cost of the 360 up to $345. o by the way you cant dowload anythign form the XBL market cuz you have nowhere to save it. ps3 you do. the lack of HDD also keeps you from having any movies, music, pics ect on your console which isnt true of the ps3. now add on XBL account to play all these great multiplayer games(btw gears of war is amazing) now the life of a system is around 5yrs or at least that is how long it takes for the next gen to come out. so $50 a year for 5 years is $250 and add that to the 345 and you have now paid $595 for a base model 360 hmm, thats liek $4 short of a premium ps3. o btw id you run out of space on that 64mb card and have to get another one then oops you jsut paid more for your base 360 than you would for a premo ps3.
with the premium systems its no better. the 360 premium comes with a 20gb hdd which is the same as the lower end ps3. you still have 5yrs of xbl so you pay $650 for a 360 that will definately not support 1080 unless you purchase the hd-dvd drive they will be selling sometime int he future. which o btw jsut adds to the 50 bucks extra you already spent. so imho 360 is losing the price war agianst the ps3 and wii. whereas the ps3 is only losing to the wii.
as far as launch bugs go. how many 360s did you go through b4 you got one that wasnt recalled. everyone i know that has one had to get at least one replacement. i know one guy that is on his 4th. so its not liek 360 had this perfect launch and was doe with all its testing ect. so dont bash sony for something you arent going to bash micrsoft for as well.
anyways the point of all that was to hopefully show you that the 360 isnt dominating the ps3 and probably never will. and jsut a prediction of mine: i think micrsoft will have to come out with the xbox 720 within the next 2-3 yrs in order to keep up with the ps3 because once games catch up to the systems the cell processor is going to put the xenon int he 360 to shame. and with blueray becoming more popular as well as hdtvs is logical to assume that by the time the next gen comes out a big portion of the gaming world will have a hdtv and blue ray movies will be abundant. and even if they arent. the 23.4gb of space on a blueray disk is going to give sony a lot of space to make games with where microsoft has around 9gb on its discs.
in closing, if you dotn liek the idea of spending over 600 bucks on a console dont buy a 360 or a ps3 get a wii. they arent going to have nearly as amazing games as the ps3 or 360 but the gameplay is great, the system is cheap, the games are 10 bucks a piece cheaper, and so far it seems that it wont have the overheating problems that the 360 or ps3 will have.

ive never been a fan of sony but the demo graphics looked great the only problem is they were only demos, the gameplay doesnt look that good. i wont buy a ps3 cuz blu-ray is doomed to failure!!!!!!!!! just like dat (digital audio tape)and mini disc. remember those great sony products? eventually no software company will want to deal with the headache of designing games for a dead system.i bought my 360 on launch day and it broke down ten months later and ms still sent me a free replacement,try gettin somethin like that out of sony.

I agree as well, and don’t forget the biggest Sony flop of all, the Beta video. I know a lot of you fan boys weren’t even alive back in the late 70s, but Sony invented the freakin VCR, and yet couldn’t get anybody to buy their tape format. All experts at the time agreed the Beta was better graphically, and also had a size advantage on the VHS. After a couple of years the Beta died a quiet death, and Sony adopted VHS along with the rest of the world. The thing is, Sony aparently can’t learn from history. The reason Beta died was because Sony made it exclusive to thier product, the Betamax VCR. The rest of the world, using Sony’s technology, created the VHS VCR, and the market place destroyed the exclusive Betamax. The same thing will happen to Blu-Ray. There will be a lot more, and cheaper, HD-DVD machines on the market place, and over the next few years the market for HD DVD discs will overwhelm Blu-Ray, just like the Betamax. Then your PS3 will have a Blu-Ray player with no Blu-Ray discs to put in it.

all i have to say is that all of you dont know everything about each system and are arguing from just your point of view. I bet none of you knew that 90% of PS3’s ship with 8 processors where only about 7 work, the system needs a minimun of 7 to work so if another concks out, you’re screwed. because sony is using such a hard to make processor that is so expensive, and sony is still busy making PS3’s for the people who didnt get theirs yet, and because they’re already in debt from their other shitty products, they’re not going to have time or money to fix it anytime soon. you’re better buying another that will just break too. by the way, im not a fan boy, i just happen to consider quality over a brand name. (P.s. if you take care of your products such as not playing them in small spaces and keeping them in cool-tempered rooms maybe they would last longer, or maybe sony could make a better product. you decide) ive had my 360 since day one and have had no problems because i take care of my things. last but not least, depending on what you play, you may want a 360 over a ps3, i hapen to like both, but i think 360 is better choice because it it more powerful on the graphics side and i prefer racing games and dont like fighting or shooting games such as halo or gears of war.

by the way, blu-ray isnt that much better, xbox 360 still looks good in upscaled 1080. I play it on a LCD computer screen with a killer THX stereo system and it is amazing. there are minor kinks like the fan noise, but if your into the games, you dont even notice it, especially if youd rather have a little fan noise than a crackling fire inside your 600$ machine.

Is this a legitimate problem? One poster mentions that that kid is supposed to leave it on instead of constantly turning it off and on.
I’m not a “fanboy”, but, rather a 32 year old gamer. I recently had the XBox360 and thought it was awesome (never owned the orig. XBox and actually just went with the flow of everyone hating it). My only gripe with the 360 was that it overheated (crashed). I placed it in a much more vented area (on the top of my entertainment center) and it never overheated again.
I plan on buying the 360 again as well as the PS3 in January. The 7 out of 8 processors for the PS3 scares me. One shouldn’t have to gamble $600 when buying the system (although, when I buy it I’m going to insure it, so if it ever does go tits=up I can have it replaced).
The fact that the PS3 uses BluRay technology opens the door for even longer, more beautiful games due to disc space and the difference in quality between DVD and BluRay. That, coupled with the “apparent” technology of the PS3 SHOULD result in a better, more high-quality system and game graphics, etc.
Am I a fanboy? No, I’ve just really liked the titles the PS2 had to offer so I’m willing to buy the PS3 hoping that it will live up to what it SHOULD be living up to.
But, yes, I will most definitely be buying the XBox360. Great graphics and I completely enjoyed Oblivion. Spent 300 hours playing it with different chars. Plus I really like the XBox Live.
Me? I hope to be enjoying both systems for their unique titles. Kinda interested in how the PS3 Oblivion compares to the XBox360 version. I know they’ve added some quests, not sure if they updated the graphics like they updated Fight Night Round 3 (which looks tons better on the PS3, admittedly.)

Now that the HD-DVD option is available for 360 at a price of 100$ I would still come out ahead of the PS3. Using the Blue-Ray drive as an excuse is kind of ignorant. Okay so it has potentil to be able to hold a ton of info for future games…… HD-DVD players are also very expensive so there again you can’t use the PS3 as an excuse for that either. Also there are more HD-DVD’s out…. I don’t have either console so my opinion is not bias one bit. When it all comes down to it, its about the eez of the development software. 360 games are already well on thier way and the software is much more user friendly. I am anxious to see how the PS3 game developers will catchup. As far as the faults of the units, I would suspect that like the 360 problems will start to occur in a few weeks. Don’t bother flaming me if you disagree because I will probably never be back to this page….. Cheers

Honestly, who is purchasing a PS3 for the Blue-Ray movie capability? Nobody. They’re buying it for video game use. PS3 is designed for today’s gamer: the 720p, 1080i, 1080p TV owning gamer. Sad, but true. But, honestly, my gamer brethren, what the heck did you expect?
Is it superior on paper? Yes, in almost everyway. Is it designed to be played by people that don’t have HD televisions? No! But, hey, neither is the X-BOX360, for that matter! These are “next-gen” systems designed to be played on “next-gen” televisions — plain and simple. It’s called marketing, people — and that’s never going to change! You don’t see Mercedes Benz banking on folks who can only afford a Dodge Neon to jump on the SL bandwagon anytime soon, do you?
And bottom line: it’s also the only way you’re ever going to see any radical difference graphically between an X-BOX/X-BOX 360 and/or PS2/PS3 anyhow!
Will most of the first-wave PS3’s suck the big one with glitches and overheats? Sure. That’s normal. Normal on ANY system for its first-wave of consoles. And, as of January, PS3 will indeed have an intercooler fan available. Although, whether or not this device will alleviate the problem for first-wave owners remains to be seen.
For right now, if you can’t fight your videogame fix, X-BOX 360 is definitely the way to go for the adult gamer (as there are next to no new landmark games available over the course of the next 6-8 months for the PS3 anway). But you can bet your britches come March, if and when Sony does work out the bugs (specifically, the overheating issue), I will be the first in line to buy one of these badboys. And if not, guess I’ll have to wait some more.
Of course, all good things come to those who wait!

the ps3 sux ass!! a buddy of mine has one and lets just say we weren’t to impressed. the controller is a piece of shit, the 360’s controller is the best one ever! and thats a fact. the 360 has better games, granted its been out for a year, but then again almost every game on the ps3 is gonna be on the 360. and with metal gear solid 4 being the only game i’d even buy or consider getting a ps3 for and rumors swirling that it may very well be on the 360 means i won’t need to waist $600 on the piece of shit. sony are a bunch of little arrogant cock suckers who are finally getting what they deserve. i mean come on now we’re americans after all, so support an american company and buy a 360!!

I remember the first console I played was a coleco vision. The first I owned was an atari, then a nintendo. I remember when you got the next big thing and it worked out of the box and it would take a beating too. It’s rediculous what we put up with as consumers today. Granted as the technology advances there are going to be problems which is becoming the norm for almost any product. I personally have a 360 which does once in a while freeze up on me (once a month). Yes it can be annoying but I can restart it and it works just fine. As for the people talking trash about PS3 problems … I believe it’s fair game for all the trash talk that the 360 endured. In the end Yes better graphics are nice but gameplay rules the gamming world. If you don’t believe me look at all of thr retro games that are still being sold, or for that matter games which have multiple sequals.
Is the ps3 doomed?? Only if there customer service retains it’s less than ample reputation and if blu-ray goes the way of the Dodo.

I have 2 360’s got mine @ launch in palmdale ca. and picked another up a week latter @ gamestop I have one my son has the other his was a core with a HARD drive upgrade. both work fine . my only problem was e both had xbox’s and migrated our live accounts to the 360’s . My original credit card had to be replaced so I added the new cc to buy points for marketplace on live. Well my sons account snaked u all g renewed in august and we got a message your account needs imediate attention credit card on file is no good so I changed his live membership to the upgraded cc and was charged $50.00, even bought $25.00 worthof points after that. come nov. some super dumbass @ microsoft killer the account because they said the original card was bad. I called 4 x and got all my $ back and created a new account for my son he had 11400 achievements gone I mean his tag is on his system he just cant log into live with it. I said if every 360 come with a silver account why not just change the account to silver til its rectified. even though it was paid in full. I have the same set up with over 18200 achievements and mine renewed this month I said I sell both my 360’s if they newb my account and they can shove H3 up thier arse! I mean most of the games my son beat I traded in a gamestop I cant go buy those games again. We both have gears and hes got 1000 gamerscore on his new account. But they need to be more careful sorry doesnt cut it. ??? what would you guys do if the killed your account and you couldnt log into live anymore?? by the way I get all systems ever launched I just love vids and can you honestly say MGS4 doesnt intrest you? Blu ray on my 1080 p tv looks great Ya resistence feels like a halo rip off but its a good shooter with huge levels. If microsoft ever comes out with a hdmi cable Ill consider the hd drive. But niether side hd or blu ray have that many good movies I want the matrix in HD now.

Ok I run a gaming Center with my Partner. We do both Console and PC Gaming and frankly I have had a PS3 for about 6 hour and the system is not impressing me.
I have an HDTV and with 16:3 on in PS2 games the image looks like utter crap. Come on the PS2 plays PS1 games better then the PS3 plays PS2 games.
Now starting back with the PlayStation Sony has had nothing but problems at launch but now Almost all companys have problems at launch. I personally have disliked Sony for some time but for VALID REASONS!
1) Read the Book “The Japan That could not say NO” You think Microsoft is evil, ha not even close.
2) Why should Sony be able to tell us what the American Gaming Community wants???? They hold games back from us because they believe its not what we would want!!! WTF I will choose what I want to play, Thank YOU.
Yes they all have problems, but how often does sony bank on new technology that goes south on them? I do not even have to go back to Betamax or there CD Player Lasers (That made it all the way through the PS2 with the same failures… how long have CD players been out again?) just look at th PlayStation Since it started as a Nintendo and Sony venture. These systems have had problems catching fire since then. I am sorry but how many times do you have to deal with overheating before you get that cooling should be more of a concern????
If you read the Game Informer with Starcraft Ghost on the cover there is an article from the creator of Resident Evil bashing the PS2 which at the time the PS3 was hardly on anyones mind. How many game makers have bashed the Xbox?
Yes Microsoft made the Xbox and yes it was a completely new system but with everything I could do with my Xbox mod wise, damn I am sorry but the only reason I got a PS2 was to play those games I needed it for. Beyond that I let my son use it as a damn dvd player because its useless to me.
Look at the PSP. Sony has done nothing but try to keep those who would boost the systems sales because of open source out. BS that its for games, its all about money to sony. They want money for anything to run on that system. The games for it are nothing next to the DS. I again have both and frankly my PSP is an expensive SNES with one game I love, Valkery Profile a PS1 Remake.
They have already said that the UMD format is a flop and will not be in the next PSP release.
Sony is all about monpolys on everything and frankly with the 7 out of 8 processors working… WTF???!!!! Who buys a system that comes broke? Would you buy a new car with 1 cyc not working?
We have accepted to much and frankly, Sony has never rated high in Customer Satisfaction when something breaks. When I got my PSP when it came out they told me to deal with the dead pixels. When they finally agree’d to replace it I had to pay to send it to them and wait to get it back!!!
Every laptop (Out of the 90+ I have owned) that has had problems under warranty they pay the shipping and its not a ground setup its Overnight. It shows how they feel about there customers and its complete BS.
Sony cares nothing about those who buy there products. They dish out the same problems time and time again. I mean come on how many systems have to overheat before they say that cooling needs to be more then 1 fan? (This is from PS to PS3, remember againt he original PS system CAUGHT FIRE!!!!) and then replacing these systems?
I have never had a good experiance with Sony. They find every reason in the book to deny your claim. Oh you used a MadCats controller? You voided your warranty. WTF o.O Is that the company you want to support? You use anything that does not say Sony and your warranty is Void??? Its all right there, they only care about the money they make, they could careless about you the consumer.

It is truley too bad, so many people have whine. Isn’t it great, that Microsoft forced Playstation into a much better system. I thought the XBox was a much better system than the playstation 2. I do not know enough about the PS3 to comment on it. I agree with the loud fan problem, but I also know that in order to get these high end computers (video game machines) to run properly, you will also need to add fans. I have a PC with 3 fans. That is just the price you have to pay for this. That is a small problem, I love the 360 and I am sure I could say the same for the PS3 when they have enough good games and a blue-ray player that is capable of playing correctly on my 1080i HDTV. I just purchased the add on HD-DVD player for the 360 for $200.00 and for me that is an awesome price to enjoy the DVD quality of the future. There are bugs with that too, that Microsoft has to adress. There is no DTS- ability or HD sound, one of the big features for HD-DVD. When I called though (I talked to a person who could speak clear English not an Indian sub-contractor that I can’t understand) and was told they are working on a patch. Well, whatever system you have, just enjoy it. You paid enough for it and the games that come along.

I haven’t bought a video games system since the PS1 came out.
Even then Sony left a bad taste in my mouth….My PS1 died in 90 days just around the time the warranty ended. They did fix it for free ( had to replace the optics & such). I bought a 360 back in March & have been happy with since I bought it. Let’s see Sony come out with a game that can rival Gears of War, then you can start to tlak about how good Sony PS3 system is.

My ps3 worked for about 2 weeks then it stopped loading all ps3 games. i can still play cd’s on it or ps2 games but it wont load ps3 games what goood is a system that wont load it’s own games,,. im shippin mine back and am told i will have a new one in a week but everybody out their better save their reciept couse your burnt if u lost it do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars if you lost your receipt your burnt never mind their faulty blue ray product they pushed out before it was reADY or the 600 that didn’t even buy u a high deff cord, the ps3’s website claims that all that cabbage buys u grafix comin at u in 1080 but out of the box your only gettin 480 u want 1080 u gotta spend extra buy the cord wich for my tv the hdtv component av cable i cant even find anywhere yet,, eb just pushed back it’s release date of the cord till the first of the new year

I agree with what DPCEEE said. I have always been a gamer since nintendo NES, WOW that was more than 15 years ago. I have been a true Sony fan from PS1 PS2 and PSP. I never owned a Xbox until the 360. I can not say anything bad about the 360 since I bought mine in 06/2006 after all the issues from launch date. I keep getting more amazed on the quality and service from MS. the 360 is a great unit and each upgrade is making the unit even better from 1080p to renting movies and tv shows from xbox live to an exceptional Xbox live system. hey great service comes with a price only $50 per year or $4.16 per month that’s the price for 2 happy meals . Will I buy the PS3? probably in 2008 once all the bugs are fixed and if the games are interesting. So far with what i was able to play on the PS3, I was dissapointed by the flow of the menu and the lack of graphics in the menu. I did not expect to see the same menu flow that is on the PSP on a PS3 and see that the control still looks the same as a PS2 controller. I know, do not fix what is not broken but for $600 buck I would like to be blown out of the water. Where are the bells and whistles that I expect for $600? Maybe in a year or 2 from now. Until then PS3 owner enjoy your new gaming unit.

PS3 is infinitely better than the XBox 360. You complain about the price, but remember the PS3 play HiDef movies right out of the box, whereas you have to pay an extra $200 for the XBox 360 to play HDDVDs…Let’s see $400+$200=$600! Looks pretty even to me.

I’d like to say that living in a dorm I experience a lot. My room mates have a 360, a Wii, and a PS3. All systems deserve credit but then again, all systems have their issues. It all depends on what system you prefer. The battle over the systems is not something that can be proven, it’s opinion based. I could not decide on a system to buy so I’m going to stick with good all N64!

Man I cant believe i read all that crap LOL. I have had pretty much every system to come out since atari, with the exception of a few, so ive played my share of games. My point is that every game has there share of pros and cons. Nintendo always comes thru with the Great Family games that can be enjoyed by all ages but never got into the mumbo jumbo of having 5million other features. Its a video game console and thats it.
Now playstation was always known to have great gameplay and incredible driving simulations (i.e. Gran turismo), sports games and an better controller design. But the life span of a sony unit was very poor and most people found themselves owning 3 or more sony’s
Now microsoft is the newest of the Gaming powerhouses and in my opinion they are doin a pretty good job. microsoft gaming studios is known for the first person shooters mostly and better graphically. and this is a fact for both the xbox and 360. the Gpu on xbox has always been better. Sony had the better Cpu. That being said, It all comes down to what you want in you game system. calling someone names because they dont like the same system as you is quite childish. there will always be likes and dislikes and people just have to learn to deal with it. I currently have a 360 and i love it. I wont be getting a ps3 till they work out some of the kinks. or Gran Turismo HD comes out. whichever is first.

First some one you are getting way too worked up over this thread. I homors me to honest with you. I have both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and have noticed that they are very comparable in graphics. Some have said that the PS3 has FPS problems, but I havent noticed any. I do have mine in open air, not in a plastic bax at Walmart which helps. The browers for the Xbox seems to be smoother then the PS3. Load times are conciderably faster on the PS3, and it goes back and forth. Xbox is cheaper, but PS3 has blueray player and xbax doesnt even have an HD player. But whatever they both rock in my mind and just ran across this thread and wanted to interject. OH one other thing are you all playing on a HD TV @ 1080i or 1080p with an HDMI cable(worth the $60 bucks)?

I have had two Ps3’s Break within two weeks!!!!!!! And the store is now telling me I have to ship it to Japan, because only one Warrenty that I paid$59 for can be used per original purchase!! Yea it was a gamestop and not a Walmart or anything…

our ps3 shortcircuited our whole home theatre system when we hooked it up to the t.v. (which is pretty new; sasmsung 60 in. LCD). we had to replace our cable box and we’ll have to get a new dvd player. i wonder what sony will say about that. this happened with two different units that we got. we got a third unit and hooked it up to a couple of older t.v.’s we had upstairs and it seems to be working fine. the first two units worked fine on the older tvs but kept blowing out the newer media system.
i don’t think we’re gonna keep this third unit. what’s the point of having the ps3 if you can only play it on a 10 year old small t.v.
we’ll probably get a wii and wait for sony to work out the ps3 problems.

Now, something I think the PS3 defenders, fanboys and non-fanboys, are forgetting is the problem of the PS3 DOWNscaling graphics quality over PS2/PS1 games.
Another problem is the cost of development, recall that if it’s more expensive to develop for a console, you need higher sales to break even. On a system with a smaller player base, this is dangerous. So far, Sony has “Shipped” 1 million. That doesn’t mean 1 million have sold. For developers claiming you need 500k units sold to break even. Over HALF of current owners need to buy the game.
But the main point is this. Look at the list of complaints and comments in the one news article. Sony has NO respect for the gaming community. They insult us at large, they force companies to give them good reviews by denying access to information by those who do not. Even Microsoft, which has had a bad name in the past as the ultimate corporate giant stepping on people, has done things to help the gaming community through the Xbox and 360.
Sony is bad for the industry, and we don’t need that. Not now when we have studies, books, and movies being unendingly produced to prove that video games need stern and strict regulation. Not only that, but the patent sharks are now out en-masse. After the Immersion debacle, now there is a company filing a lawsuit against the Wii for something that has a passing resemblence and against the Wii and 360 for a mass of other supposed patent violations. I believe the one was a “Dome covered trigger” or something like that. Basically, a controller button.
The industry is being assaulted on many fronts. Mainly by one side who is trying to cause the industry to be heavily regulated if not out and out banned, and another trying to cash in whenever their is a success. We don’t need Sony’s business tactics included in that mix.

What do you think 20 gig is referring to? Yes, a HDD, so just ignore the HD = $200.
And wireless adapter? What is he talking about here, the remote or a wireless controller? Controllers are wireless in the system package. Plus the 360 comes with a headset, and now a game. So, you get the entire package, plus a game and if you want to buy Live for a year ($50) we’re talking about $450, NOT $750.
A few months ago I sold my 360 to a friend of mine b/c I needed the money. But I just bought another 360. Both times choosing the 360 over the PS3 for obvious reasons. Let me tell you that the 360 is an excellent system and the software (games) are extremely impressive.

Dave, you shouldn’t be calling people morons, because your not the brightest person either. G-DOG was referring to the HD-DVD drive which would compare with the Blu-Ray Drive, and the wireless adapter would be needed on the xbox360 so you can connect to xbox live without any wires. PS3 is already a wireless system so no adapter is needed. You probably never read up on the PS3 and have the XBOX 360, so you just want to bash the PS3, because you can’t afford it.

this thread was made to explain various problems with the playstation 3. Like what happens when i open it up, plug it in, and play for 5 hours straight. I just wasted a lot of time reading these comments, and i think maybe 4 people actually owned a ps3. And they all had nothing but positive things to say about it. Only the xbox ppl bashed it
If anyone has any EXPERIENCE! with a ps3 console, and would like to let me know about any problems with it, plz comment. I am probably buying one this weekend, and i am checking out to see if it will be better to wait a month or so.

Jesus 94 posts on this (now 95)? Wow. All I can comment on is the experience I’ve had. Ten months after buying it, the 360 broke and had to be replaced. My brother’s PS3, purchased during launch week, still works fine. I’ll give the PS3 approx. 10 months to break before I declare one better than the other but the facts speak for themselves…

Maybe you could actually read through it while I catch up on trying to finish the new book. Just yesterday, I found a way to make some serious time to read it, that is why there was no news reported until later in the day, so that update should be coming soon. I have both 360 and PS3. each have positive and negative drawbacks. only problem i have with my 360, it and the powersupply overheats easy. my PS3 after 5 days from a returned unit, shuts down after 5mins of play (music, movies, games, internet browsing). i haven’t returned my 360 once, i bought it in may ‘06. i bought my PS3 feb 1st ‘07 and returned it feb 7th and now its back to power failure like the first one. i really like both of them, but after paying $572 CAD for 360 and $811 CANADIAN for PS3(all after taxes) my shit should work the way its suppose to and not have problems.

It has a hard drive that I can save everything on, it plays all of my PS2 and PS1 games, it plays DVDs, it plays Blue-ray (and all of you that said blue-ray won’t make it because HD-DVDs are already becoming popular, did you ever think about what people said when DVDs came out? They Thought That DVDs Wouldn’t Sell Because Everyone Had VHS and DVD Players were expensive as hell!), oh and my system holds muic, pictures, etc., and of course it plays PS3 games(DUH!) So if you want a 360 that you have to spend a ton of money on for memory cards, dvd player components, and all the other shit you have to buy just so it can do all of the things a PS2 can do (thats right I said PS2) then go right ahead and spend money out the ass cause I can buy a PS3 in two weaks with my pay (and by the way I’m only in high school and I can afford one without my parents paying for it). So go fuck yourselves 360 fans because we know deep down you are nothing more than jealous because your “system” is a piece of mechanical shit and you want a PS3 but can’t afford one so you bitch that it sucks all of the time. My ONLY beef w/ PS3 is the insane price & Sony’s belittling attitude towards gamers/consumers in general.
I admit, I never played a PS3. So I’m not gonna rag on the games or power of the system without trying it myself… but I can say that there isn’t a single game out or coming out for the PS3 that makes me wanna rush out and buy it. That opinion is soley based on my appeal, not because i think the graphics are junk or anything of the sort.
The fanboys who defend the price are just regurgitating exactly what Sony tells them. A Blu Ray player? SO???? The base system lacks HDMI (and to be fair, so does the 360). Blu-ray/HD-DVD is a pointless battle. Consumers don’t give 2 shits about it because they aren’t willing to risk having one format be obsolete. (May I also point about that the tape format Betamax was from Sony, and failed miserably in the consumer market… along with Mini CD… Sony never learned their lesson!). Am I interested in hi-def movies? Sure I am… but only until a unified, single format is available.
Oh, then some bloke above says to stop whining and save money for a HDTV. hey, I already have one, but that 16 year old kid who really wants to play Resistance is shit outta luck unless he can really convince mommy and daddy to drop money on a new TV. And if he bought the PS3 with his own money… now you’re asking him to save some more to get a new TV? What a way to support your fans.
Besides, any good audio/video-phile knows that if you want TRUE quality, you’re gonna go buy a stand alone player and not some all-in-one system.

If you care that much about hi-def movies, then why don’t I see that same attitude about ’saving for an HDTV’ about stand alone players? A $600 PS3 gets you a half-assed Blu-ray player. Check out any videophile site that compares the PS3 to a stand alone Blu Ray and they all say it. And to be fair, the same is said about the 360 HD-DVD vs stand alone HD-DVD. I don’t play movies in my 360. I have an upconvert DVD player for that.
And what about Sony’s attitude? They expect you to buy a PS3 just because. They say that ‘entry level’ gamers should buy a PS2 instead until they are ready for a PS3. What an insult! “Hey, you should just play this 5 year old system and let the big boys deal with PS3…oh, but we think in a year you’ll buy a PS3 anyway”. The head of Sony complains that they are selling them for too cheap. They are too full of themselves and while their attitude isn’t going to change how the system works or how the games play, it’s still a big turn off.
I don’t deny there are good and bad for BOTH systems (my 360 just commited it’s own red ring of death today! Which is how i stumbled upon this site). But it just seems like the Sony fans have nothing better to say than, “It’s a Blu ray player! It’s quieter!”
Quieter? I don’t hear any fans or disc drives when I got my 5.1 surround blasting gunshots in my ears! Oh… but I’ll bet someone is going to argue that not everyone can afford a surround system… even though those same people will argue that you should save for an HDTV just to play games. Ridiculous and inconsistent.
Lastly… I bought my 360 a year ago, online. (01/12/06 to be exact). Up until this point, I could not find a 360 anywhere, online or at any stores. I actually stumbled across the least likeliest of sites selling the 360 (I was searching for bed sheets!). Even after I got it… I did not see an actual Xbox 360 in any stores until around April or May, and they weren’t ‘fully’ stocked on shelves until around June! That SIX MONTHS of the 360 selling out. A month ago (January 07), I saw a STACK of PS3s at Best Buy!! A STACK. I was so dumbfounded, I actually had to go over and pick up the boxes to make sure they were actual systems and not just some empty displays. Only TWO months after the PS3 release, they are sitting on shelves, not flying off them like the 360 did a year ago. It says a lot. And anyone who will try to say that Sony must have been able to manufacture more will get laughed at.
Oh, and let’s not forget that GTA, Resident Evil, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Metal Gear are no longer PS exclusives. That says quite a bit.
But that’s my anti-PS3 tirade. I’m sorry, I just can’t buy PS. For the PS3 fanboys, have fun. I want you to have fun… but if you’re going to go around talking smack about what other people actively chose, then you deserve the same back. Your system isn’t all that. It’s not going to change gaming as we know it.

Oh, and that reminds me… yet ANOTHER format that Sony pushed that’s failing… the Sony Memory sticks. Next gen Sony products are coming out with SD card support vs Memory sticks. Not to mention the failing PSP movie UMD format. I’ll give Sony credit for trying, but they don’t ever seem to learn that people want universal formats, not device specific formats. But who can blame them? Why should you be able to use existing memory cards you already own? You should definitely have to pay for new cards for each device you buy, it’s so much better for Sony’s bottom line, huh?
FYI: Seperated components = lower console price. It also means you have the freedom to choose what you want. i don’t want HD-DVD, so I just saved myself $200… an option you can’t take off the PS3. Does any Sony fanboy ever actually consider that not everyone wants Blu-ray OR HD-DVD?
Double FYI: Discs are ancient. Next gen video is going to be all memory cards and flash drives. Believe it. So go ahead and buy all the blu-ray you can find.
$400 X360 (which comes w/ hard drive) + $200 HD-DVD = $600
$600 PS3/ 40gb hard drive/ blu ray = $600

The 360 fans arent loud, its the dvd drive, thats why when you play downloaded demo’s on it it isnt noisy.

the x-box 360 is an amazing console, my opinion. believe it or not, microsoft planned on using blu-ray technology with the 360. microsoft decided not to go with that technology because the blu ray disc would damage easily. Unlike regular cds or dvds, the blu ray disc holds around 50 gigabytes of whopping information on dual layers. there is a problem with this though, the disc have tiny pockets of information embedded in them and at this concentrated volume, nicks and scratches do anything but prolong the life of your blu-ray disc. All in all, i like the 360, own both xbox consoles, 2 ps2’s, a gamecube, a dreamcast and an original nintendo nes system. Its all in what makes you happy and suits your financial or gaming needs. either way at the end of the day your going to fork out a lot of cash for your console, so enjoy whichever investment you make.

just incase anyone confused me as a sony or xbox fanboy. im not. im a gamer, i love all game consoles.
i just posted on this site about my ps3 problem cause thats what the forum says its for. i love all my consoles from my atari 2600 all the way up to my next gen consoles.
i just miss the times when we could buy a console and it worked.
For the guy that didnt have the ballz to leave his name and ranted and cursed like the f-word owed him child support, its still nice to see people show how immature they are. thanks for making our day.
I just really wanted to relay that i think the ps3 and the xbox360 are absolutely awesome(when they work).
To the rant guy, most of us actually buy the consoles for the pure pleasure of the enjoyment & fun we get from playing them and not just for impressing our “friends”. Perhaps when u reach puberty, u may understand this.

yea fuck the ps3 and fuck sony..i played medal of honor on ps3 and it sucked so bad..halo 2 and gears of war are the best shooters ever made..the ps3 sucks so bad that in my opinion the wii kicked its ass!! Sony needs to stop copying other systems and come up with their own console!!I dont care what anyone says. xbox 360 and microsoft kick ass!!!

so, the ps3 isnt worth buying? I bought one, it works well, but im worried it will screw up in a while. Tons of people are saying t kicks ass, i like all the games comming out, monster hunter, killzone 3, lair, resistance (rocks), bladestorm:hundred year war and elder scrolls 4: oblivion. But, does the system really suck that badly? should i return it and buy an xbox 360, because so far i love it, but if im making a mistake then tell me what i should do plz.

For those who aren’t aware SONY delayed there system in the UK then announced only the more expensive system will be available for £500 ($1000). I didnt want to wait any longer and bought myself a xbox 360, i have to say im glad i did. I am a prime example for a problem for sony, i represent a casual gamer, where most of the money is made. Sony will need to do something pretty damn spectacular to win me back, which i wouldn’t mind if they do, because i dont hate them, i just see a similar package for must less money in the UK. AND PUT THE COST IN PERSPECTIVE. The PS3 is £500 - the xbox with 4 games 2 controllers and 20 hard drive is £320. Even with the extra HD player its damn less money. My machine did break down today, however i had it exchanged with not any problems. Im more dissapointed in sony to be honest, xbox had FILLED that void PS3 left, the graphics aren’t a huge difference in my opinion, although i’m sure the sony will win that front, THE MAIN PULLER for me is online play, i pretty much only play online, im hearing bad stories about sony on that front. I can’t believe you don’t have voice chat yet, or can’t even listen to music when playing a game????? Whats that all about Sony? Can anyone tell me if the graphics are much better on the PS3? thanks I hope that was informative

I feel really stupid. I even read all the blogs and forums etc which covered all the negative feedback etc and just figured it would be fine!!! I just got my PS3 (Japan) played on it for a day before Sonic started freezing now on day two I have exactly the same issue that is played above Red light that turns Ambar and then flashes red and wont switch on!!! What do I do???

i have a few 3 questions.
1. I was playing Resistence: fall of man and the game froze, i know the cd is pretty scratched, is my ps3 screwed up? or is it the game? the system works fine besides that.
2. I turned the backswitch of my ps3 on, and forgot to press the start button and put my Resistence in, and thed system turned on by itself and suked my cd in by itself.
3. Are there a lot of invisible boundaries in the elder scrolls 4: oblivion?

I’ve never posted before, but I thought I’d share some information on the PS3. I’ve never been an Xbox fan. I don’t like Microsoft or Bill Gates. I’ve always bought Sony products, PS1, 2 and now 3. As a Sony fan I can honestly say that I’m disappointed. Even when I bought the PS3 I wasn’t excited as I drove to my apartment with the console in-hand. The price tag is $200 too much. I even drove back to the store before opening the box because I wanted to return it. Instead I turned around, and set the thing up. As I type this I’m going back and forth on whether or not I should return this over-priced gaming console. It does not exceed my expectations, it isn’t better than Xbox360 and the games that are currently out suck. I’ll leave all you Sony fans with this one thing in mind. If you buy a PS3 make sure you pay for a 2-year warrantee. The PS3 overheats and shuts down after just six hours of play. In the end, I’m hoping that Sony fails. They released this thing too soon, don’t care about the consumer and are banking on the blu-ray DVD player to make up for the PS3s gaming shortcomings. I have 30 days to return my PS3 and I can almost guarantee that I will do just that. RIP Sony and eff you too!

I agree friend, I don’t particularly like the xbox as a machine, however it’s the best we have available now as sony havn’t lived up to the hype.
The BLUERAY is a SCAM. The only reason it included slueray is because they want to dominate the next gen dvd format - nothing to do with gaming. This mean their greedy. Lets face it, the future of games isn’t blueray is downloading.
Sony have tried to be fly with the ps3, but by doing so they left the door open for xbox, its clear really now, as much as i would love the PS3 to blow me away and buy one, well its not realy.
BLUERAY WASN”T INCLUDED FOR GAMING IT WAS SO THEY COULD DOMINATE THE DVD NEXT GEN FORMAT but claiming more households have blueray than HDDVD. this makes me angry.
And the price in the UK is just plain rediculous, in america you have it CHEAP, the uk is double that price, its laughable

im hearing everybodys comments about the problems with the ps3 and im sad to say, that i also had problems with my ps3 as well.i got mine back on dec-01-06 and i loved it, i was very inpressed by it , just not happy about the game titles that were out, (madden really sucked for the ps3 they better fix the controls for that game like they were the years before!) any way im a fan of the blu-ray got alot of movies and if ur into surround sound and picture its by far the best! but recentley while playing blu-ray movies i noticed sound skipping out while the movies playing , now it only does this during blu-ray play back it works fine during video game use, but i tried everything u can try , and it still skips, but thank god its under warrenty for 90 days, i called sony told them the problem,they sent me out a box from ups ,i had 2 send it 2 them and there shipping me out a newly tested one!! so hopefully i will have no more problems! we shall see!

Which one will be the Beta? or the VHS? Well for me i will be getn the PS3 because they have F1Championship game. That alone can satisfy me till all the new titles come out the rest of the year. Sony Should make a PC version of it so i dont i have to spend $600. Oh well…

I’m a studio engineer, I know sound and video, and the Xbox 360 has good graphics, which the PS3 demo in the store only marginally excelled. I have no fanboy status, prefering to accept the truth from all quarters, regardless of platform.
I obviously have taken care of my 360, keeping it ventilated, and powered through a wall outlet directly. I have an intercooler. I instinctively do all the things someone in the field of electronics would know to do to keep something alive. After 3 months, the red lights of death glowed. Power supply was fine, and I wasn’t playing Prey–one of the most detailed graphics out there. I was playing Xbox Doom 3–and for only 15 minutes into power up. So I know, that despite the bullshit Microsoft put me through to try to blame it all on me, this is a product problem. They replaced the unit free of charge, with a later production model, as far as I can see. I was very lucky…they just stopped charging people for THEIR failure, and have extended the warranty to 1 year. Let’s see if Sony can do the same.
