Next-Gen Mortal Kombat Announced & More

Nintendo’s press conferences are tomorrow morning, so hopefully we’ll see the price and release date announced since Nintendo will not be attending the Tokyo Game Show next week.  I’m confident we will get that information we all want.

NHL 07 and NHL2K7 for the Xbox 360 hit the store shelves this week.

In other news, Ed Boon, creative director of the Mortal Kombat team, is now talking about the next Mortal Kombat game for next-gen consoles.  Since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon will features every single character ever in Mortal Kombat and is billed as the, “final battle between good and evil”, some thought that would be the last MK game, they were wrong.

“In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, we wanted to end a number of things, actually. We wanted to end this chapter of the story. This is the last Mortal Kombat on this generation of consoles, and we also wanted to end this kind of fighting mechanic for Mortal Kombat.”

Ed Boon continues,

“On the next game, we’re going to start new, with a bunch of brand new characters, a whole new fighting system, a new presentation with the new graphics for the new consoles, as well as a new control scheme to take advantage of some of the new technology available. We thought it was a good time to close this chapter and open a new one with every single aspect of Mortal Kombat — It’s going to be brand new.”

With the release of Armageddon, many fans have been able to finally play with all their favourite characters once again. For Ed Boon to kill them all off next game will put this series six feet under. With Capcom’s Street Fighter 3, even with the start of a new chapter, they were forced to hold on to a handful of characters from the previous one. Mortal Kombat would not be Mortal Kombat without Scorpion and Sub Zero AT THE VERY LEAST. While I know most of the characters have to die or fade away, some staple characters to the series must remain. I am hoping for at least Scorpion, Sub Zero, Kitana, Liu Kang and Kung Lao to survive Armageddon, but we will see if Ed Boon is willing to give fans that much, if he really cares about us in the first place…
