UNSCleric.com Special: Debut Blogcast

This morning, after reading and thinking about the E3 news, and everything it means to the industry, I have recorded a 27+ minute blogcast (or Gamecast as Microsoft calls them) and it’s basically just me, going through what is going on with E3, why it’s happening, and who is profiting off it.

I had very little preparation for this. It’s all off the top of my head, so be kind:). Like I said in February, blogcasts are in the plans for this site, but I wasn’t quite ready for it yet, I was going to start them this fall, but now that E3 has supposedly been killed, I felt that today I needed to do a special “blogcast special” for lack of a better term.

I hope you enjoy the blogcast, and UNSCleric.com will continue to do them from time to time, and maybe even have a regular one sometime down the line. There will also be future articles about this and related subjects. I’ll have more news on this situation during the day, as we expect an official announcement about E3 and its future sometime today

The next wave of UNSCleric.com is here :-D

  2. Administrator Says:

Amen to that, and thank you for the new banner. (I also added a note about that in the Contributors’ Section)

Also, I want to say that this show isn’t what my nromal blogcasts will be like in the future. This site was created to be a positive site, I rarely ever post anything but exciting news on current or upcoming things when it comes to Xbox 360. This had to be said though, and because of that, it’s kind of a one subject rant, while my normal shows will be a lot more diverse and…uplifting.

I look forward to doing them in the future, but I’m not too informed on the whole blogcast thing, so I’m recording using my iRiver H10 and just throwing it on the PC afterwards. If anyone is wondering, that high pitch noise you hear about 25 minutes in seems to be the hard drive within the iRiver, it does that every time I’ve recorded something long.

good debut UNS! E3 definitely has created an uproar.

The point of this podcast missed me I think. All I heard was “Sony Sucks”. E3 was supposed to be all about people in the gaming industry not for gamers themselves. This is about what the market will bear. Purely economics.

  7. Matt (YourExWife) Says:

@ Aka Magi: It is never purely economics in the game world. It is an undeniable fact that thousands, if not millions of gamers, look forward to E3 every year. This year was one of the biggest yet and generated more hype than any in the past (arguably). The bad part of this is that those companies that didn’t do too well (IE: Sony, EA, etc) provide so much backing to E3 moneywise that they have a controlling say in its existence and how things are run. Almost every company other than Sony got massive amounts of great positive publicity from the event. It is basically a bold-faced lie that there was not enough media exposure and that is the point. Media outlets not connected to Sony have hinted that this move is because Sony wants to have their own trade show with only those developers they approve of and control the media exposure to such an extent that bloggers and other independents are likely not to even be in attendance, eliminating the chance of such bad PR as we all saw this year. You cannot seriously say that it is purely economics. It is purely deception…….as usual.

  8. Ciros 360 Says:

    It’s official. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6154935.html

A “more intimate” expo means that an E3 as seen this year will never be seen again. This sucks. I wouldn’t be surprised if the city of LA tries to take legal action against the ESA. 20 million is a lot money to lose. As much as I’d like to just blame Sony/EA for the fall of E3 I’m sure alot of other companies, including Ubi-Soft and MS, weren’t seeing a return on the investment that is E3. Thought Cleric was 100% correct in saying that MS is the only one of the ‘Big 3′ that actually seems to care what gamers say and uses that feedback to make change…

  9. Aka Magi Says:

I can see how the gaming industry is not purely about economics given that Xbox has never turned a profit and Playstation has only turned a profit in a total of 7 quarters since it started. That being said though it is the expectation of future profits that is driving the market. Without that dropping these loss-leader on the market would be a daft move to say the least.

Still though I am afraid I must reject the implications made that Sony and EA are somehow the cause of this particular problem. All news outlets and even Xbox’s Major Nelson told a very different story, one of the show simply being too overdone for it’s own good. It also stated that all the large vendors were pulling support and none were cited by name.

Still though the ticket to E3 clearly stated by entering you certify that you are a vendor or an invited guest of a vendor, or a member of the press. E3 is not intended for gamers themselves.

  10. Administrator Says:

Sony & EA have been cited by name, from GameSpot and many others:

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/6154935.html

Bold text right at the top. As I said before Microsoft’s name has been falsely added by the Sony/EA bias media, who pays them off every year.

“Annual expo to become “more intimate event” and will focus on press events, small meetings; EA, Sony behind push to downsize, sources say.”

GameSpot can skew the truth and hide behind mysterious “sources”, but when you look at the reality, there’s only Sony and EA to blame.

Let’s nor forget that IGN is owned by Fox, and we all know how close Fox and Sony are, I talked about this in my 2 main articles I’ve written on this.

    http://corp.ign.com/

Fox is one of the main pushers of Blu-Ray with Sony, actually adding more security to the format which will make home entertainment for consumers even more of a pain, and much more.

Also, any news outlet being funded by Fox (NewsCorp) slammed the Xbox 360 all Christmas long last year.

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,175860,00.html

Like I said in my blogcast yesterday, it’s sad to look at the inner workings of these companies, because you really start to see the widespread bias and corruption.

  11. Aka Magi Says:

I’m going to have to reject any implication of a Sony-biased media as well. Conspiracies are good for the internet though, they make people think so while I cannot agree with your conclusions, by all means keep speaking your mind.

  12. Administrator Says:

I’ve laid out all the facts for you, it’s not a conspiracy theory if it’s true. I think I talked about Fox and Sony and their very personal dealings with Blu-Ray in my “Fallout of E3″ article a couple months ago, but if I did not, I’ll have to in my next one. Basically Fox convinced Sony to add even more DRM (Digital Rights Management) to the format and just make the format even more uncomfortable for users.

When major media outlets (NYPost, Fox News, all their affiliates, etc.) with ties to Sony are publishing peices entitled “Don’t Buy The Xbox 360″ on the Friday before launch, it’s very clear there’s a heavy bias. All you had to do is watch your local news during Xbox 360’s launch week. Ones with ties to Fox would be running Xbox 360 “Recall” stories, while ones with ties to MS or a neutral party would be airing neutral or positive stories about the launch lines & the incredible prices they were going for on eBay.

I know it takes a bit of time and research to fully understand everything (as well as an open mind), as with any subject, but it’s important to look at and understand all the evidence if you really want to know what’s going on.

  13. Aka Magi Says:

I haven’t seen any evidence, just speculation and an desired conclusion being arrived at. Fox and Sony compete with each other in the film, video, and music entertainment sectors. I am really not seeing how you arrived at how this translates into a news conspiracy. They are both part of the BluRay consortium but thats the only link that can be established linking them. Fox is biased but only in areas of conservative politics, there has never been any credible link to supporting another corporation. If there were the Securities and Exchange Commission would have alot to say about that as Sony is a publicly traded company and Fox offers financial news. Like any news you will see different conclusions being reached, there were legitimate positive and negative stories to report on about 360’s launch. Singling out the negative stories and calling them biased is as silly as agreeing with only the positive ones.

Let me know when you find some real evidence, I’d be happy to see it.

  14. Administrator Says:

“If there were the Securities and Exchange Commission would have alot to say about that as Sony is a publicly traded company and Fox offers financial news.”

Funny you bring that up. Every Saturday morning Fox News airs a few financial tip shows, and I always have it on, and every single week, they say EA is the best technology stock to buy every time, just watch it for yourself and see.

I don’t have any footage recorded personally (nor do I have the time to find, store, edit, and compile everything), but I do know what I saw, and that was a month long smear campaign on the Xbox 360 last fall.

Also, in an off-topic point, Fox News does not push a conservative viewpoint, they push a globalist/corporatist agenda. That could be considered neo-con though, that’s a completely new subject.. :)

  15. Aka Magi Says:

This Canadian sees Fox as a pro-Bush organization. I’ll leave the specific sect and classification up to you Americans to catagorize. I saw no one agency leading the way in bashing 360 at launch. Most of what I saw that was negatove had to do with pitiful supply, retailer corruption, and a high price point.

EA likely is a good investment though. They seem to have run out the competition.

  16. Administrator Says:

It’s easy to do that when you buy out all means of competition. :(
