Sony Promotes Racism (and Sexism)
Really disgusting ad here for Sony’s failing PSP and UMD format, this one is located in London.

There’s several lame PSP ads now flooding the world, but here’s another “gem”:

Racism is bad, mmkay.

This is getting out of hand.
First the PSP commercials, which were okay, and then this?
Wow, Sony. Just. Wow. Way to be a bunch of insensitive fucks.
July 4th, 2006 at 6:16 pm
wow just wow what is sony thinking really??
July 4th, 2006 at 6:21 pm
and this is racist err… how?
All i see is an ad campaign focusing on the colour of the PSP; white. We’ve already got a black one and a black themed ad-campaing, this is just sony pimping their newly coloured (albeit useless) handheld.

Completely untasteful and racist. Also, when? I’m not seeing a date on that advert anywher. I only see a tiny url that I’d be willing to bet would not even be noticed — or even readable in some drivers’ cases. Is it part of Sony’s “marketing genius” to leave passersby uninformed?

This is getting ridiculous. It seems Sony will do anything from lieing to racism to advertise. And if any of you all havent seen this, and you dislike Sony, this will please you. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6153458.html

elmicker…
In response to your question, do you think this ad would be shown in the US? I know it wouldn’t. There would be a feeding frenzy and the ad would be taken down. That ad wouldn’t last a week over here, Sony knows it and I think deep down you know it.

What they should have done…was “clean one of this f’n hair balls” so it looked white. No one would say anything to that.
July 5th, 2006 at 2:07 pm
To be fair it is better than Sony’s initial PSP White ad slogan: “PSP White > Minorities”
July 5th, 2006 at 2:09 pm
It probably was that. The truth is, the Japanese hate both whites and blacks sadly. The way they run their businesses in Japan is proof of that. They are very xenophobic of ANY foreigners.

One would think that’s become clear to MS who continually fail in Japan despite providing a quality product. I think they support Japan instead of just Europe/North American exclusively for fear of alienating some gamers in those regions. Maybe for Xbox 3 (Xbox Next?) they’ll just support North America/Europe and dominate sales-wise, allowing Nintendo and Sony to duke it out over Japan…

That’s not an entirely bad idea, Ciros, but there are always going to be gamers in all regions of the world who have interest in specific systems. If the 3rd XBox console were released only in North America and Eurasia, there would be controversy associated with it and the consumers who actually do want it over in Japan. Microsoft could, instead, provide the same level of attention to the Japanese market but not push quite as hard to actually penetrate it. If Microsoft had released the XBox 360 in smaller quantities/shipment in Japan, then the United States would have had smaller shortage problems. I think that’s the biggest thing that Microsoft did wrong with the XBox 360. Learn by doing, I suppose.

lol, I can see how that could symbolize racism but cmon. I cant wait for MS to make a handheld so I can see them crash and burn. The PSP is a pretty good console. I got a DS lite and ended up selling it 15 days later.
July 6th, 2006 at 10:08 am
The PSP is all flash and no gas. That’s all there is to it. “I can’t wait for Sony to release the PS3 so I can see them crash and burn.”

Amen Caleb. I bought a PSP the day it launched and it has been absolutely worthless. There have been no games that are actually worth playing, and the thing is fragile as hell. I’d love to see MS enter the handheld arena, but not anytime soon. They need to focus their efforts on the 360 and estabilishing Live Anywhere, thus when they do launch a handheld, the sub-structure will already be established for a portable device such as that.

I also purchased a PSP and had it for a few weeks. I realised after a while that I was using it to surf the Internet and listen to music and not play games. I tried a few games on it and my thumb would cramp up quickly while playing with that little nub (they call that an analog stick?). So I returned my PSP and bought myself a good laptop.

I agree Mike, MS does need to stay focused on the task at hand and not try and spread themselves too thin. It can come in due time. Has anyone else heard that there are 2 other ads out there for the PSP that are just like this, but worse? I am going to see if I can find the links.

As promised…

There are the other pictures that were being shown but have since been taken off of Sony’s Dutch PSP site.

If this were shown in the US Johnny Cochran(sp probably) would rise from the grave and probably kick krazy-kens ass.
That would be pretty cool to watch actually…
I laughed when I saw it, because as much as I hate racism, it’s funny to watch sony do and say stupid stuff over and over and over. They’re like the crazy, stupid, racist neighbor. You just don’t know what goofy thing they’ll do next.

I just updated the post with another ad I meant to include on Wednesday.

[...] Since Sony won’t comment on their offensive PSP ads (or apologize for them) this week’s quote will once again focus on the ads and their stupidity. For my article on this from earlier this week, click here. Here’s a quote from Kotaku: [...]

[...] It seems the kids over at the official PlayStation forums have figured it all out. All the mainstream gaming sites, even IGN, has been paid off and is secretly working with Microsoft to keep the PlayStation 3 down. That’s right, it’s all Microsoft’s fault that Sony has a horrible reputation right now. It’s not the racist/sexist PSP ads, it’s not the countless stupid remarks from Kaz Hirai and Phil Harrison, it’s not the fact that none of the PS3 games are actually impressive and that Sony has been caught in a lie weekly since E3. It’s all a conspiracy. Find the truth here at the PlayStation boards. [...]
