A key difference in the gaming and motion picture industries, however, is that movies are given a set schedule and deadline because their development is easier to plan out. You can reliably assign a set time or day to do a scene. This is because you don't have to debug, "playtest" your actors everytime you finish one minute of the "movie", port your "movie" to different platforms (sometimes dubbing and translations occur, but that's about it), worry about patching your movie because of some previously unknown goof up (like a visible camera operator or microphone or continuity issue, etc, etc. Game development is much more complex and requires not only a story, actors, and good effects, but also a good thoughtout design in regards to programming, art, distribution, and other things.

Not to say that I appreciate delays, but if it helps the game be more complete and an all around better game, I don't mind too much.

I agree, like I said on another blog yesterday, if you were one of those people who never could get your homework in on time, it seems the game industry is the place to be.

Well good news that its up and running. A guess one week isn't that long to wait but it does seem that Arcade-wise the release dates are simply placeholders and that neither the developers, publishers, of MS are treating them as actual dates. I'd rather they give out NO release date than to keep delaying it. I don't mean to be a buzzkill but this stuff wouldn't fly in other major entertainment industries. If Superman Returns was delayed a week A LOT of people would get upset. Not that I'm comparing a demo of Prey to a major motion picture release but it does seem that the video game industry still isn't taken that seriously, even by people WITHIN that industry. Oh well, back to work, dreaming of heading on home and playing the holy heck out of the demo...
