Publishers Concerned About Unfinished PS3 Hardware

Publishers like Sega and THQ are getting restless about Sony’s apparent inability to finalize the PlayStation 3’s hardware specifications. THQ even killed a planned PS3 game based on The Sopranons because it would be “too risky.”

EDIT: Here’s another article from other on IGN.com

Sony’s Grave Error: The $499 HDMI-lacking PS3.

“No HDMI, no HDCP. That equals no 1080p thanks to ICT. This equation spells disaster.”

Xbox 360 New Features & Article Fallout.

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

A company at E3 2006 was showing off the SDK they developed for Microsoft and Sony for the Xbox 360 camera and PS EyeToy. “We can’t tell you…what Microsoft is going to do. All we can tell you is what they can do…” As of last month, Xbox 360 developers had the tools needed to reproduce every demo Nintendo had on the E3 floor.

Full story here.

Also, the article yesterday brought unprecedented hits to the site. I got 1,800 new readers within hours, 400 of them came within a 60 second period in the late morning. The feedback has been great, about 85% has been positive, while the rest says it’s too biased, but I have yet to recieve any feedback that actually challenges anything I say. After my next update on The Halography, which will occur sometime in the coming weeks, I’ll be starting on a new article, not sure what about yet.

Update 2: Minor errors fixed and a couple links added.  Edits are complete.

New Movie/Game Trailers.

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

The following trailers are now available on Marketplace for Xbox Live members in US and Canada:

Hard Candy Trailer (720p/480p)
Akeelah and the Bee Trailer (720p/480p)
See No Evil Trailer (720p/480p)
Peaceful Warrior Trailer (720p/480p)
La Mujer de mi Hermano Trailer (720p/480p)
Expect a SAW III trailer very soon as well if if they do things right. I would presume Microsoft actually recieved the SAW III trailer today but were told not to release it until Friday when the trailer launches with See No Evil. There is the chance though that the SAW III trailer is such a short teaser clip that they won’t put it up on Marketplace, but we’ll see.

The Xbox Live Marketplace also has a new Kameo: Elements of Power trailer, which shows off some gameplay from the second demo of the game that was released, as well as the new co-op mode.

There is also a new NBA2K6 Picture Pack (80 points) and a College Hoops 2K6 theme (150 points) available.

PS3 Price in UK Revealed.

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Joystiq has posted a new entry talking about the price of the PS3 in the UK. As usual when it comes to Sony, their customers over in the UK will be paying more than anyone else, especially the Japanese, who don’t even have a set price for the premium PS3, as they’re allowing retailers to decide how much to sell it for.

It’s like Sony is trying to lose here, can you imagine what the launch prices are going to be for the PS3 bundles here in the USA for example? With the system being $600, the bundle packs that stores like GameStop will put together will probably begin at either $899 or $999. I actually feel sorry for anyone who would pay that much for a launch console with no standout games and untested, unadopted media formats.

Also, in a side note, I have finished my “Fallout of E3″ article, and it will be posted tomorrow morning.  I’ll be putting the finishing touches on it tonight.

More Assassin’s Creed PS3/Xbox 360 Controversy.

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

(For the previous entry on this story, click here.)
It seems not only were the demo units for the Assassin’s Creed odd looking in the Sony booth at E3 (sheet overing whatever was playing the console for example), but it seems some, if not all, of the demo units were using an Xbox 360 controller to play. As you may know, the Xbox 360 wired controller works flawlessy with the PC, and since the actual PS3 demo units right now are actual computers (just like any console is before it’s finalized) it makes sense. It also would be convenient, since Ubisoft Montreal was originally making the game for the Xbox 360 and probably already had the control scheme mapped out for that controller. We probably will never find out if it was actual Xbox 360s under the sheet however.

New ‘Outfit’ DLC, PS3, & MS/Lucent.

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

For anyone who likes ‘The Outfit‘ there is a new Map pack available for the game, and it’s 500 points.

GameSpot has posted a nice article about Sony, and how it’s tactics hurt the growth of the gaming industry.  They don’t go into as much detail as I will be when I post my new article this Friday, which will discuss E3 and the fallout from it.  I’ll be covering a range of issues.

GameSpot has also posted an article about Lucent and Microsoft’s court battle.  As you may know, Lucent is what is known as a patent troll.  They get patents that are very broad, and then try and sue whoever they can.  I guess it’s a way to make money, but it’s still pathetic.

Halo 3 UI Faked.

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

A fake pic of the Halo 3 menu screen has been floating around the internet, and usually I wouldn’t bother with it, but this one is kind of interesting, especially since a lot of people may think it’s real.

Bungie has posted the following story in regards to it:

The user interface screen floating around the interzone right now is a fake. It’s a pretty fake, but fake nonetheless. We’re not going to debunk every fake we see, but that one is clogging the forums. So stop talking about it. It’s fake.

EDIT:  Added a second fake pic.
