Lots of good, valid points about Sony & their business practices.
For years now, I’ve had a hard time believing some of the things Sony has tried, and even gotten away with. It’s always seemed to me that Sony is willing to do anything, to anyone (including their own loyal customers), to get a larger profit margin.
In their defense, I’ve noticed this to varying degrees in many other Japanese/Asian companies. A part of their culture and/or mindset that doesn’t “translate” to our ideals? Could be, but thats just a guess on my part.
Even though you clearly stated what was fact & what was conjecture, I’ll be interested to see how many of the “fanboys” gripe that “You just hate them cause you know it’s the best!”.
    Beep up the great work.

very good article on sony and e3, i think this is a slightly stale time in gaming right now, on any system . we need more inovation in games , although graphics are great , it all comes down to the gameplay, and what is possible in them . when halo was launched everyone loved it because it was inovative, we need less repeat gaming titles and more new titles, i see some possibilities in the 360 future. inovation and interactivity in a game are key things that make a game replayable, addictive and a must have game, im looking to the game studios for more fresh , inovative content , as a gamer of 40 years old , youve got to make me think , not just shoot.

I have to say this was a very interesting read,I will admit i have always purchased what ever console that come out for one reason or another, nintendo because at the time i had a young daughter and that system is child friendly, sony ps and ps2 because my little brother was hooked on ff and microsoft because it was just great im 37 and i appreciate what microsoft has to offer hardcore gamers and so on..its not just games with them they want you to enjoy the simplest part of the system to the entertainment part and then you have the gaming part..The only other system i loved as much as xbox, xbox 360 was my Dreamcast..I think microsoft took what they had and made it great, and took precautions so they could not fail..

I think we need to not settle. Yes game play is important, but just equally as graphics and sound. We keep spending alot of $$$ on new concoles we need to expect great things.

Great Article: I would add that main reason iw ant to see MS gain more market share is because of how much MS does outside the business. MS reinvests heavily in their communities, you see that MS considers their corp. resposibility, I really do not see that from Sony.

    Same here.

Also, about Microsoft taking their position of power serious, you’re 100% correct on that. There’s a reason why Bill and Melinda Gates were chosen as 2 of the 3 people of the year by Time Magazine last year.

The article is good and I enjoyed the read but the title of the article says e3 review and to me the article was just about Sony and a few tidbits of Nintendo and Microsofts stuff. I agree completely with your stance on sony and everything u said was good and valid I just don’t think the article matched the title of the article. You should change it to Sonys e3 2006

jedi, note that this is a predominantly Xbox site, and so him covering Sony’s E3 showing, and comparing it to the ‘360, makes sense.

Anyways, great job with the article, USNCleric; like usual. All very valid points, and an overall well thought-out piece. Can’t wait for more. :)

    Excellent article.

“100% of games have taken advantage of the rumble feature for several
years. Play a game right now, and after 10 minutes, turn the rumble off, and you’ll notice
    something is missing, fast. ”

Anyone who remotely doubts that should give it a shot. I remember back in the days of n64 and ps1. I read in Nintendo Power magazine about the upcoming “rumble pak” and kind of doubted it’s usefulness. And then once I played starfox64 with it, and then tried without it, I knew how vital vibration was going to be to games.

Amazing info you shared there. It just kept me hooked from the beginning to the end. Many arguments are very well backed up with proof and examples. You are able to convince even the most stubborn of fanboys with this article.
Thanks to you, I now realise all the greed and nasty tactics that Sony has to offer. I didn’t know many of these things before. Now I realise why the Dreamcast has come to an ubrupt, quick fall, despite having so much potential for being a long lasting console.
Anyway, a really amazing article that was a true pleasure to read. I hope there will be more. You have all my support, keep it up.

  14. Escape Says:

Wow, very thought out. Bravo. I also do not want Sony to completely be bankrupt, since some of their products are very nice and good quailty such as my Video-editing studio and my Dvd Handycam. But I do feel that they need to take a step down out of the gaming word and start living in the reality and stop lying to their customers.

  15. Damien Says:

I have to say. Alot of this I never knew of, especially how the way Sony took out the beautiful Dreamcast. I really do hope Sony go bank-rupt etc, they need to know what its like to be defeated

The 1/1/07 update to The Halography will have a section on the Ghosts of Oynx. I bought the book back on Halloween and still have not read past the first chapter, due to all the awesome games that came out in November. I’m going to start reading it later this week.

The Halography can be found at TheHalography.com

GREAT ARTICLE! WOW! I gotta sit down and think this one over for a second….

Ok I’m back. I too remember the early years of the 2000’s and the promises that Sony made about the PS2 and never delivered upon. You’re right when you talk about the E3 CGI trailers that Sony shows and how the gameplay never matches it. Quite recently, gamers who were beta-testing the new Metal Gear title were quite dissapointed with the gameplay. Also, PS3 only has 256 MB of Ram to go with their fancy new cell processor in comparison to the 512 MB of Ram the 360 has. I agree that Sony will always beat MS on their home-turf, but I think that PS3 is doomed in the States.
