Halo 3: Why is this a surprise?
UNSCleric.com’s front page has been updated, but this time I won’t be just copy and pasting what I posted on there onto here, which I usually have done. As you may have noticed, I usually post more news on this page than on the front page, and a lot more often. That’s because this setup is a lot more faster and easier than dealing with how I have the front page setup, so I’m thinking about making the front page more like a menu to other parts of the site, instead of some kind of tag along news page with this one. It’s not really a good system to try and report the same news on two different areas for the same site..just doesn’t make sense.
So basically, this will be the place to get your news (UNSCleric.com/news) and once I finally get working on some content for the site, I’ll let you know, but first, go read the couple paragraphs on the front page, where I talk a bit about E3. I like reporting news and doing the occasional article/commentary every now and then, so I’m not sure if I’ll ever get much into the previews/reviews thing.
Forza 2 and Halo 3 are being rumored to be shown off in some way at this year’s E3 in 2 weeks, and although Forza is likely, I don’t get why Halo 3 at E3 would even be a newsworthy thing to talk about right now. I am of the belief that Halo 3 will be the best game of all-time, but I don’t understand the “Holy **** it’s coming!?” attitude I’ve been seeing lately. Since X05 last year, when there was no little hint of Halo 3 (I figured they would maybe just show the logo to tell people, “Yes, it’s coming, buy the Xbox 360 and get ready”, but they didn’t.) Since then, I’ve always said E3, or the surrounding days is when we would see either a Halo 3 announcement trailer, or maybe even the start of another Alternate-Reality Game from Bungie/4orty2wo, like we saw with ilovebees.com.
Supposedly Peter Moore hinted at Halo 3 earlier today (which has now been proven as false, his pre-E3 interview on Xbox.com says nothing of it, and he said it nowhere else.) The weekly Bungie.net updates however have been saying they have a lot of stuff done and looking good. I believe Halo 3 (or what is now considered Halo 3) has been worked on since 2003. I think fragments of Halo 3 might have even been worked on before Halo 2’s production even started. I think Bungie went with what they wanted to do, and realized the Xbox just couldn’t handle where they wanted to take the story. Joseph Staten then (this is what he said) locked himself in a hotel room and wrote the story for 3 days straight I believe it was. They reviewed it, and it’s what they went iwth. I think the last minute story writing and hyperness that surrounded Halo 2’s creation is the fact that they had to scrap their inital plan, and go with a plan similar to The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions (extremely cliffhangered ending).
That is also why Bungie said about a year ago that “Halo 3 is not our next project”. Halo 3 was already thier CURRENT project, which they had worked on along with Halo 2, not to mention the fact they’ve also been working on the Halo 2 PC version, so I would take that quote by Frankie (Bungie’s news writer) with a bit of doubt. It’s exactly like Frankie and Bungie to say something like that, throw people off with a technicality of meaning.
Halo was shown at E3 2000, and came out in November. 2001. Halo 2 was announced at E3 2003, came out in November 2004. Halo 3 will now be announced at E3 2006 and come out sometime in 2007 (anytime between March and November). I think what you can expect at E3 will be a 3-7 minute trailer for Halo 3, most likely giving people a bit of what direction the story is going with in Halo 3. This will probably be the only video we ever see of Halo 3’s single player, just like with Halo 2. They never showed more than the first level of Halo 2’s campaign in any commercial they showed on TV, and all we ever saw from expos was multiplayer, which is a very smart move.
You should be extremely excited for Halo 3 at E3, but don’t be shocked by it, as this is Microsoft’s biggest weapon agsinst the PS3 hype train, besides Xbox Live.
