Xbox Team Reponds to Sony Hype + Halo 3 at E3 2006.

“This announcement certainly doesn’t change any of our plans. We’ve blasted out of the gate with the greatest launch in the history of video games and we’re keeping our eyes squarely fixed on today and on the Xbox 360 road ahead, including continuous new content and programming through our premier Xbox Live online gaming service, the delivery of 80 high definition games and shipping between 4.5 and 5.5 million consoles by June.

This may come as a shock to folks, but Sony tends to not share their launch plans with us in advance. ;) We’re continuing to stay focused on Xbox 360.”

Microsoft Game Studios’ General Manager, Shane Kim, hinted at Halo 3 yesterday while at the “Viva Pinata” press conference. I’ve been saying since early October, when Halo 3 wasn’t mentioned at X05, that Halo 3’s announcement would be at E3 2006, specifically the first day, on May 9th, 2006, I’ve repeated this prediction many times, and I believe Shane Kim just basically said that’s correct. When asked about the next Halo, Shane Kim responded with,

“We’ll be talking about anything we’re doing in the Halo universe - whether that’s Halo 3 as I call it or anything else - at the right time. That time will be soon.”

Just under 2 months until we see at least some kind of trailer of Halo 3, whether it’s a full-blown game play trailer (which I believe it will be) or just a teaser video of the logo, you can bet on Halo 3 being officially announced after 18 months of silence since Halo 2’s release in November 2004.

And I think it will be a safe bet that Microsoft will announce a release of around say, November, for Halo 3 or a Halo related product to coincide with (combat) the launch of the PS3. After all BG pretty much stated this going to be the case last year and with the delay on the PS3 launch there has been that much more time for Bungie to work on it…
